I am a patient tutor with over fifteen years of experience teaching science, math, and data science. In 2019, I was among the top 1% of the 17,757 active tutors (according to Wyzant).

The majority of my tutoring is teaching graduate students and professionals computer programming, statistics, and database development. I also help high school and undergraduate college students with science, math, and computer programming. I specialize in data analytics for business and all sciences as well as instruction for biology, chemistry, ecology, marine biology, and oceanography.

At university, I majored in biology and minored in chemistry and mathematics. During this time I was a general tutor and a biology teaching assistant; ultimately, graduating with honors. In graduate school, I've been an instructor for labs, as well as a teaching assistant and then instructor for active learning, gen-ed biology course.

Immediately after graduating with my BS, I worked with the US government on environmental issues in the Caribbean. Throughout grad school, I continued to work on environmental problems in the United States, Central America, and Asia.

I am also a PADI dive master and AAUS certified science diver. I have a passion for coral reef ecology and marine ecosystems.

For over ten years, I have programmed for data analysis and information management. During this time I have helped undergrad and graduate students as well as professionals with data wrangling, analysis, and visualizations. I primarily tutor R and SQL, however, I also provide tutoring for Python and other languages as needed.
GIS,

GIS

I completed three undergraduate courses in Geographic Information Systems using ESRI ArcGIS. I am familiar with raster analysis, remote sensing, geocoding, vector analysis, and SQL data queries. Now, I primarily us R packages for cartography, spatial analysis, and map-based research.
Microsoft Access,

Microsoft Access

I can help you realize your database goals by assisting with the process of developing, customizing, and fully utilizing/realizing a database application. I started developing database applications with Microsoft Access 2003 & 2007 and have become familiar with every version since. I have built databases for non-profits, private companies, university labs, and government agencies across many different sectors. At every step of the way, I have taught others to duplicate and expand my work. I am prepared to help you with data normalization, creating schemas and entity-relationship diagrams, writing SQL queries, developing forms and reports, and VBA programming.
Oracle,

Oracle

For ten years, I have developed relational databases on different platforms (Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Microsoft Access, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) and their different SQL dialects (T-SQL, PL/SQL, etc.). I am prepared to help you with database design, data normalization, entity-relationship diagrams, queries, joins, aggregations, sub-queries, stored procedures and functions, as well as other topics.

Clear, Concise, Knowledgable

Clear instructions, flexible tutor, and knowledgeable about R. Makes it really easy to learn coding online as Eric provides in depth explanations. Ensures that you come out with independent skills.

Elizabeth, 5 lessons with Eric

Highly skilled

Eric taught me how to develop chi-squared tables for multiple variables. I had unsuccessfully searched for a solution for this need in many platforms. Eric had shown me how to do it 30 minutes. He was very patient with me as I fumbled around with my code. I am a newbie and my experience with him encouraged me to soldier on. He is a great tutor!!

Audrey, 2 lessons with Eric

Help with R

Eric was very knowledgeable and patient in explaining everything out. He was pleasant to work with and definitely helped me to understand a thing or two about R.

Elena, 1 lesson with Eric

Patient, approachable, and kind tutor

Eric was very kind and patient during our tutoring session. He was able to take me back to basics to make sure I understood key concepts. I felt much more confident after our session and will seek him out when I need help again in R. Thank you, Eric!

Fantastic tutor.

I learned a lot from Eric. He was very patient with his teaching. His explanations were superb. I loved working with him. Additionally, as someone who is quite shy at times, Eric made the learning environment very friendly. He is a great teacher.

Eric is very patient, goes with the flow of what I think I need and gives me great efficiency tips along the way.

He taught me a variety of basic concepts, tools and tricks in R. This included understanding using Projects and R markdown files, the global environment, what happens when I install a package and similar basic concepts for using RStudio. He helped me understand basic concepts with removing NAs.
