About Jennifer

As a college graduate, I have a degree in journalism and have earned chemistry and biology minors. I also graduated with University Honors that included a demanding thesis project. I have nine years of tutoring experience teaching pre-college and college students across the northern Illinois region.

I have one and half years plus teaching students with specials needs and learning disabilities. My first job out of college was working at an autism school helping children with severe delays and learning disabilities pass their classes and become more functionally independent. (Ages: elementary, junior high, and high school levels).

In college I also tutored students with special needs, learning disabilities, and disadvantaged students for five years. I tutored anyone from freshman year to senior year and beyond in specific courses at a tutoring center. For instance, I taught a lot of pre-college and various general education courses in the 101 category. I tutored subjects ranging in chemistry from basic, general, and organic chemistry. Biology courses including anatomy, physiology, and all levels of basic biology. Basic (non-engineering) physics classes as well.

I specialize in helping students from dysfunctional backgrounds gain the necessary skills to not only pass their classes but reach for the major and profession of their dreams! My style is to help the student learn and grow and not only improve their weaknesses but advance their strengths. My style definitely takes a lot of patience which I have an abundance of thankfully!

Worried about not passing your classes? Is your son or daughter struggling with their schoolwork? Or are you being courageous transitioning into a new career? School can be stressful. With proper study skills and patience, I have been able to help students from freshman to seniors brush up on their skills. I have also helped high school students receive high honors. I help students not only survive their semester, but help them achieve the highest grade possible.

I also specialize in college application and scholarship writing strategy. It's never too late to go to college and to apply for scholarships. Yes, great grades and outstanding SAT/ACT scores do help. But any child with proper mentoring and marketing can be accepted into college and be considered for scholarships. I personally know this for I have been awarded over $250,000 in scholarships and grants during my college career.

I BELIEVE in CONTINUING EDUCATION as well. I have recently completed a grant writing certificate as well as a life coaching certificate to aid in new techniques in helping people with their career and academic goals.

I look forward to meeting you!

Out of all my tutoring subjects, I love tutoring chemistry the most! I apologize if there was a misunderstanding:

I have on record that there was a no show and I have to prioritize clients that are serious about their progress as I usually have a waiting list. I sincerely care about my client's progress and only work with clients who want to see results. Every case is different and I am compassionate when things come up, but I was up front about my policies.

"Incredible tutor! Very unique and effective approach to tutoring."

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I have an avid love for public speaking. I'm an accomplished public speaker and an award winning speech writer. I have written many speeches for numerous events and occasions. I have a Broadcast Journalism degree; I have been a host for public programming, on-camera voice for two TV stations, and on-camera personality at my college's TV station. I found my love for public speaking in elementary school when I was performing at the local community theater in my hometown which eventually grew into a love of public speaking in front of hundreds of people. I love helping potential speakers improve their writing or speaking abilities. I have found that certain theater exercises and writing exercises are very useful for helping potential speakers become more confident in speaking and they enjoy their performance so much more!

Special Needs

I have helped children with special needs in the past. I have advanced special needs certifications and know how to handle IEP goals and manage the environment for optimal learning. I will be available in the summer to take on clients needing extra curriculum structure to help students gear up for the upcoming school year. Please don't hesitate to ask!

Study Skills

My experience with study skills is quite diverse. I have helped both high school and college students with study skills concerning test prep, test anxiety, methods for note taking and memorization, as well as overall performance organization.

I have also worked in a special needs classroom; specifically for an alternative school for grades K-12. I applied study skills through the mediums of flash cards, visual schedules, visual aides, and repetition activities to name a few.

I believe that to help a child succeed in study skills is to recognize and adapt to each child's learning style beyond just the visual, audio, and hands-on techniques. I believe what makes a great tutor is by helping the student not only learn the material, but also build his/her self-confidence with the material. This enables the student to reduce text anxiety and to enjoy school.

As a professional, I believe in continuing education and to keep up with new trends in teaching, I'm currently seeking a collegiate certification in teaching students (at all ages levels) with dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, and other learning disabilities.

Please do not hesitate to email me with any of your questions. I look forward to speaking with you soon!

I continue to master existing and new writing styles on a regular basis. For example, I'm an award winning writer, a published writer, a journalist with a career working for local TV stations and newspaper since I was 17, and a technical writer. I love writing projects that include blogging, writing articles, and grant writing projects. I've also written award winning essays (and have also helped others write award winning essays) some of which have received monetary awards. I love what I do.

I have a track record for improving my students' and clients' writing. I also have helped adults learn to write. I have a track record for improving essays for competition, scholarships, academic courses, and/or scholarships. With my background, I have found that writing is both a science and an art. I love what I do!
