Physics

Hello there! My name is Roy Wilson, and I have a degree in Physics from Colby College. I have been teaching for the past 13 years in both math and physics classrooms. I have taught all levels of physics and was the primary instructor of our advanced placement curriculum for ten years at Blair Academy in New Jersey. I am extremely interested in continuing to help physics students, as my classroom experience and commitment to developing confident, knowledgeable, and passionate physics students make me a terrific fit. Additionally, I live in the Philadelphia area and currently have a teaching position at Moorestown Friends School. My role at MFS will be teaching courses in Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus. In my opinion, your physics studies place emphasis on having strong math skills, and I have several years of teaching experience these topics at all levels. In particular, I have taught courses that were conceptually driven and those that were computational by nature (e.g. a year-long course in electricity and magnetism). This was a second-year physics class for students at Blair and was partly catered to preparing them for the corresponding AP Physics C exam. I pioneered this two-year sequence several years ago in an effort to remove the time constraints placed on both teachers and students pursuing the entire AP Physics C curriculum over a single academic year. My electricity and magnetism syllabus is specifically designed to be the culmination of the two-year sequence, and the goals of the course are achieved patiently and with deliberate attention to detail. Moreover, the best tutors are those who understand how to blend the instruction of the theory with common applications. I believe that I am well-suited to function in this capacity given my focus on creating these opportunities for my students now. I have developed several laboratory tasks tied to my advanced courses, many of which feature the use of PHET simulations that help with visualizing the concepts involved. In my option, in order to internalize t

Knowledgeable and a great hands on tutor!

I am a physics student at the university I am attending. I was struggling with very basic physics principles. My lectures are very difficult to understand. The homework is almost impossible to do on my own. When I did a tutoring session with Roy everything changed! We worked on one basic fundamental in physics but I feel like Roy explained it so well that I am now able to not only understand the content but also can complete my homework with no mistakes! I highly recommend using Roy. He is very hands-on with any content you throw at him. He was asking me questions about the material throughout the session too so I always felt like I was on the same page as him. I will definitely be tutoring through Roy for any physics questions I have!

Very knowledgeable and makes confusing topics easy

Very satisfied with my tutoring experience. I feel that Roy went more in depth than my teacher ever did which allowed me to fully grasp the concept. For some concepts hat I couldn’t figure out, he used familiar analogies, which made it much easier. Highly recommend.

Great teacher

Roy helped me so much with making sense of my physics lab experiments and helping me visualize the concepts so that I could better understand them. Great lesson!
