Hello. My name is Gloria and I am teacher with over twenty years of experience. I am currently a 7th grade teacher, but I have taught students of all ages. Hello. My name is Gloria and I am teacher with over twenty years of experience. I am currently a 7th grade teacher, but I have taught students of all ages. My certification is in reading, social sciences, language arts, math, elementary education, ESL, and middle school. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham method and Lindamood-Bell. I have also taught test preparation classes. These classes have focused on standardized tests. I also have a lot of experience with RtI, MTSS, and assisting students who struggle or have special needs.

I have created and instructed differentiated lessons, evaluated students’ performance, and interacted with students’ parents. These experiences allowed me to become more knowledgeable and creative about the duties and characteristics necessary to be a successful educator. My enthusiastic and creative manner of instruction allows me to engage students in the learning process. I am open to diverse ideas and interact well with students and parents. I have effective listening skills, which enables me to gain students’ trust in my commitment to their well-being.

As a teacher with 18 years of experience, I am well trained in the Common Core Standards. All of my lessons must meet these standards. These goals and expectations are important so my students are prepared to succeed in school and later in college, their career, and in life.

I am currently in my 18th year of teaching. I have experience teaching all grade levels and am familiar with the expectations from schools. My lessons have always met the requirements of the State Standards. I have taught all classes, but my strengths are in Reading, English, and Writing. I have my masters in Reading and am a certified Reading Specialist. I have taught and tutored students who have needed assistance in skills including, but not limited to, reading comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, phonics, spelling, writing, and proofreading. I am also certified to teach math, pre-algebra, science and social studies. I also differentiate my lessons according to each student’s need.

I am a Reading Specialist and trained in the Orton-Gillingham and Lindamood Bell methods. My experience and incorporation of multi-sensory activities provide students with a variety of strategies to further their phonemic awareness and phonics skills. I will provide students knowledge that will help them gain a better sense of speech, sounds, and words.

I am certified in social studies. I am knowledgeable in US, World, and Ancient History. One of the classes that I currently teach is Ancient History. We cover topics including, but not limited to, the history of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, Greece, Europe, and South America. My Reading Specialist certification assists me when teaching and tutoring social studies. I incorporate skills that assist my students in their comprehension and retention of material.

Special Needs

As a teacher, I come across students of all needs. Learning is difficult when a person has limitations, whether physically, socially, or developmentally. Students with special needs must have lessons that appeal to their ability, interests, and motivates them to succeed. Trust is also important. If a student does not trust you, he or she will not want to cooperate. I have and always will, be willing to help an individual gain achievements in their educational career.

I am a Reading Specialist and trained in the Orton-Gillingham method. I will help students learn and understand the principles and patterns of spelling, strategies for to use for unfamiliar words, and connections that can be made to enhance extend their spelling and vocabulary.
Study Skills

Study Skills

As a teacher, I come across a wide variety of students with different needs and learning styles. I incorporate different organizational tools until the student finds one (or more) that works with their needs and personality. I would also review proper note taking, incorporation of acronyms, memorization cues, amongst other skills.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Gloria has been working with our son over the summer as he transitions to middle school. Our son has always struggled with ELA and needed a patient and understanding person to reinforce reading comprehension strategies, reading fluency, vocabulary, and phonics. Gloria is not only knowledgeable on key components of ELA, but able to focus our son when he would rather lie on the floor and fiddle with toys.
