I'm a STEM educator with a Bachelor's degree in Math/Physics (double major) and a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics from Tulane University. My teaching experience began in my first year of college, when I volunteered as a Teaching Assistant for high school physics at Lusher Charter School. Shortly after that, I began working independently as an in-home tutor for students across New Orleans. I helped 9 different students (8th graders through college sophomores) with pre-algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, AP Physics C, and quantum mechanics. I continued tutoring throughout my time as an undergrad, and in my junior year, I also worked for a local ACT/SAT tutoring company called Magnolia Prep. Having received a 35 on the ACT myself, I was able to provide comprehensive one-on-one guidance that helped 6 students improve on their previous scores. After starting grad school, I spent 2 years as a Teaching Assistant in the Physics Department at Tulane. This included 2 undergrad courses (Introductory Physics and Modern Physics) and 2 graduate courses (Computational Physics and Computational Materials Science). My work involved leading weekly recitations, holding office hours for one-on-one help, and improving course curriculum.
Beyond teaching, I am also an experienced researcher in the field of condensed matter physics. I have worked in 4 research groups and published 8 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals. I received 5 awards for my scientific work, including the Joseph Kyame Physics Award and the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. My research is where I truly derive my math expertise from, as I utilize concepts from Calculus and Linear Algebra daily.
My approach to tutoring has been the same since day one. My goal with each student is to empower them to become an independent critical thinker. I identify the topics they typically struggle with, work with them to master the fundamentals, and then build experience with practice problems. Please reach out if you’d like to schedule a lesson!
