Approved Subjects

English

English

I hold a B.A. in Linguistics & English, an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology, and an M.A. in French Literature, with extensive academic training in language, communication, phonetics, and the structure of written and spoken English. As a former university instructor of Linguistics and an experienced language educator, I am especially skilled at making complex language concepts clear and approachable. I help students strengthen their grammar, reading comprehension, writing, and overall confidence with English, tailoring instruction to their individual needs and goals. I also taught English for six years to adult students from Japan, who described me as patient, warm, engaging, and effective.
French

French

I hold a Master of Arts in French from the University of Notre Dame and a B.A. in Linguistics, giving me specialized expertise in French pronunciation, phonetics, and grammar. My teaching experience includes graduate-level instruction as a Teaching Assistant, university-level teaching in Linguistics and Latin, and several years of private tutoring with teenagers and adults. Having lived and studied in France for more than a year, I bring authentic cultural and conversational insights to my lessons while helping students build strong foundations in speaking, reading, and comprehension. I tailor my instruction to each student’s goals, interests, and learning style, creating a warm, engaging environment where students can make sense of French and gain the confidence to actually use the language—not simply memorize it!
Grammar

Grammar

With two B.A. degrees in Linguistics & English and Classical Languages & Literature, an M.A. in French Literature, and an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology, I bring an unusually strong understanding of how language works. As a former university instructor of Linguistics, I have extensive experience breaking complex grammatical concepts into clear, understandable pieces rather than relying on memorization alone. I help students strengthen their grammar, sentence structure, writing, and overall understanding of language, adapting my explanations to their age, level, and learning style. My goal is to make grammar feel less intimidating and more intuitive by helping students understand the why behind the rules.
Latin

Latin

I hold a B.A. in Classical Languages & Literature (Latin) and have taught Latin at the university level as an Adjunct Instructor at Centre College and as a Professional Tutor of Latin at Syracuse University. I was also selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar, studying Pompeii and the writings of Petronius—an experience that deepened my appreciation for the language, literature, and culture of the ancient world. I tutor Latin I–III, helping students develop a strong foundation in grammar, vocabulary, translation, and reading while making the underlying structure of Latin clear and manageable. My approach is patient, encouraging, and highly individualized, with an emphasis on helping students truly understand how Latin works rather than simply memorizing rules.
Literature

Literature

I hold a Master’s degree in French Literature from the University of Notre Dame, along with B.A. degrees in Linguistics & English and Classical Languages & Literature. My literary studies have taken me across cultures and historical periods—from the literature of ancient Rome to French literature and British literature studied in the United Kingdom—with particular interests in 19th- and 20th-century American and French literature. I help students develop stronger reading comprehension and literary analysis skills by breaking challenging texts and concepts into manageable pieces while encouraging thoughtful discussion and interpretation. My goal is to help students move beyond simply identifying what a text says and discover how and why a writer’s language, structure, and choices create meaning.
