My name is Lizette and I earned a PhD in Spanish Literature in 2025 from the University of Chicago. I have almost 10 years of experience teaching Spanish language at the university level (beginning, intermediate, advanced, heritage). I am currently a post-doctoral teaching fellow at UChicago, where I teach not only Spanish language, but Spanish literature as well. Additionally, I have been tutoring privately for the past year and truly enjoy teaching the language on a 1-on-1 basis.
Throughout my 10 years of experience, I have experimented with various pedagogical approaches. Currently, my approach implements primarily literature (particularly short stories and excerpts for beginning and intermediate levels) and pop culture (for example, integrating songs and analyzing the uses of verb tenses in the lyrics). I also integrate culture into my lessons, particularly when Spanish or Latin American holidays land close to a tutoring session, as the Spanish-speaking world is comprised of many rich and diverse cultural traditions.
As a teaching fellow, my schedule is similar to that of an adjunct professor, so I enjoy a ton of flexibility. I am able to meet on select weekdays and also have open availability on the weekends. I have reliable transportation, so I'm willing and able to meet anywhere that is most convenient for both.
