I’m Martha, and I love teaching math! With over 30 years of experience teaching high school mathematics, I currently teach at one of the top-ranked high schools in the United States. I hold a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and have maintained National Board Certification in Mathematics (Adolescence and Young Adulthood) since 2004. My professional accomplishments include publishing in Mathematics Teacher, completing two Fulbright Fellowships, creating a district-wide summer math acceleration program, and serving as an adjunct instructor at a top-ranked university.
For the past 15 years, I’ve also worked as a private tutor, and I love helping students reach those “aha!” moments. My approach is student-centered: I ask thoughtful questions, identify how each student thinks, and guide them toward deeper understanding. I believe productive struggle is essential for lasting learning, so I know when to let students wrestle with a concept and when to step in with clear explanations, meaningful analogies, and encouragement.
I’ve tutored students in Calculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Precalculus, and other high school math courses. My experience includes helping a struggling calculus student get back on track, providing long-term online tutoring across the country, and supporting students through advanced AP topics and independent study. I quickly assess what students know and help them build confidence and mastery.
My goal is to empower students to become independent learners. The best outcome is when they no longer need me because they have developed a strong mathematical foundation and the skills to succeed on their own.
I look forward to working with students locally and across the U.S. I pride myself on prompt communication, professionalism, and expert instruction. If you’re ready to work with an experienced math teacher and tutor, I’d love to help.
