I earned my M.D. from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and a B.A. in Molecular Biology from Pomona College. I'm also an American Heart Association BLS and CPR Instructor with a strong background in STEM subjects, including biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, and medical sciences.
I've spent several years teaching and mentoring students of all ages. I mentored first-generation and premedical students through The Populi Foundation, helped lead HPREP, a program introducing high school students to healthcare careers, and organized educational workshops for medical students through the Orthopaedic Surgery Interest Group. I also help run C.A.M.P. Schwab, a summer camp for children and teens (ages 7–18) with physical disabilities, where I recruit and train volunteers while working one-on-one with campers.
During medical school, I cared for patients from infancy through adulthood, so I'm comfortable working with elementary, middle school, high school, college, graduate, and adult learners. My strongest subjects are STEM, and I'm comfortable tutoring everything from elementary science and math through college and medical field coursework.
I'm bilingual in English and Spanish and grew up in Chicago before moving to California for college. Growing up in a Mexican immigrant family and working with diverse communities has taught me the importance of meeting students where they are and creating a comfortable, judgment-free learning environment.
I also know that every student learns differently because I've lived it myself. I have ADHD and worked through anxiety and depression while earning my medical degree. Those experiences taught me study strategies, organization, and test-taking skills that I now pass on to my students. My goal isn't just to help students get the right answer but to help them build confidence in themselves and the way they approach learning.
