I started tutoring as a sophomore in high school, volunteering simply because I loved helping classmates understand math. That experience was so rewarding that I've continued tutoring through college, my time as a professional educator, and now my career as a software engineer.
I've worked one-on-one with more than 20 students ranging from 8th grade through college and adult learners. My primary tutoring experience is in Algebra I and II, along with Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus.
I also spent a year as a classroom teacher, where I taught computer science from introductory programming to AP Computer Science (Java). Although I taught computer science, I was certified to teach mathematics and have continued tutoring math throughout my career.
My teaching philosophy comes from one of my own math teachers. Growing up, I believed I simply wasn't a "math person." Then I had a teacher who helped me truly understand mathematics instead of memorizing procedures. That experience transformed my relationship with the subject. I completed college calculus while still in high school, eventually became a software engineer, and today I even read books on mathematics and its history for fun.
That experience shapes every tutoring session. Rather than helping students memorize enough to finish tomorrow's homework, I help them understand *why* the mathematics works. Deep understanding builds lasting confidence, and I've seen firsthand how overcoming something as intimidating as algebra can change the way students see themselves.
