I am a former college professor with more than 20 years of experience in teaching and mentoring students. I hold a BA in political science from Johns Hopkins University and an MA and PhD in political science from the University of Pennsylvania. Throughout my career, I have taught political theory and political philosophy, American politics, and international relations. My central focus has been on helping students develop the critical thinking and communication skills to succeed academically.
I have taught hundreds of undergraduate students in both introductory and advanced, and have spent countless hours working one-on-one with students during office hours, mentoring independent research projects, and providing detailed feedback on essays and research papers. In my experience, students benefit the most from learning how to think, specifically, how to analyze complex ideas, evaluate evidence, construct persuasive arguments, and write with clarity and confidence.
One of the keys to my teaching has always been close reading and thoughtful discussion. Together we work through challenging texts paragraph by paragraph, identifying key concepts, clarifying difficult passages, and connecting ideas across readings. The goal is to help students develop real understanding rather than relying on summaries or memorization.
