I am a licensed educator with a Master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and over five years of experience working with students across elementary, middle, and high school. My background includes teaching English, special education, and academic intervention courses, as well as serving as a Dean of Specialized Services at a college preparatory high school in Chicago. I hold an Illinois teaching license and an LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist) endorsement.
My teaching philosophy centers on building strong relationships, understanding each student’s unique learning style, and creating a supportive environment where students feel confident taking academic risks. I have extensive experience working one-on-one and in small groups with students who need support in reading, writing, organization, study skills, executive functioning, and general academic achievement. I also have extensive experience tutoring the English and Reading sections of the ACT. I believe that meaningful learning happens when students understand not only what they are learning, but also why it matters and how they can apply it independently.
Whether a student needs help mastering specific content, building confidence, preparing for exams, or developing long-term academic skills, I tailor my instruction to meet their individual needs. My goal is to help students make measurable progress while fostering independence, self-advocacy, and a positive attitude toward learning. I strive to make tutoring engaging, encouraging, and focused on helping every student achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.
