Hi! I’m Hunter, a biomedical engineering student at Marquette University with a strong foundation in the math and science I now tutor, including calculus, physics, and chemistry. My engineering coursework forces me to apply these subjects constantly rather than just memorize formulas, so I understand not only how to solve problems but why the methods work. That is the perspective I bring to tutoring. I help students build real understanding they can carry into the next class, instead of cramming for a single test and forgetting it a week later.
Outside of class, I work in the engineering department at the University of Illinois Chicago on a medical device project assigned to our team by a surgeon at the UIC hospital, where I design and automate experiments using MATLAB and Python. I also recently completed a senior capstone redesigning a medical ultrasound device. This hands-on work has sharpened how I break complicated ideas into clear, logical steps, which is the same skill that helps me explain a tough integral or a confusing physics concept to a student who feels stuck.
The mentoring I do is informal but constant. Throughout my program, classmates regularly come to me for help, and I have become the person who can take a confusing topic and explain it in whatever way finally makes it click for that individual. I bring that same patient, adaptive approach to tutoring. I start by finding exactly where a student’s understanding breaks down, then rebuild from there with plain language, worked examples, and guided practice. I work well with high school and college students, and I am happy to offer a short intro conversation so we can talk through your goals before scheduling. Feel free to reach out anytime. I respond quickly and would be glad to help.
