I am a published author, MFA graduate, and college English instructor with more than ten years of experience teaching writing, literature, research, rhetoric, and argumentation. I earned my MFA in Creative Writing from Northwestern University and my MA in English from DePaul University, and I have taught college-level writing courses at institutions including Oakton College and Loyola University Chicago. My background allows me to support students not only with grammar and sentence clarity, but also with the deeper skills that make writing stronger: organization, analysis, evidence, style, and confidence.

As a tutor, I work with high school students, college students, adult learners, and writers who want thoughtful, practical help with essays, research papers, personal statements, reading responses, literary analysis, and application materials. My teaching approach is supportive, direct, and individualized. I help students understand what their assignment is really asking, develop stronger ideas, create clear thesis statements, organize paragraphs, integrate evidence, and revise sentences so their writing becomes more precise and engaging. I also explain the reasoning behind my feedback so students can apply those skills to future assignments.

My goal is never to erase a student’s voice or simply “fix” a paper for them. Instead, I help students recognize what is already working in their writing and then show them how to make it clearer, more specific, and more persuasive. Whether a student is struggling to begin an essay, organize a research paper, revise a draft, or polish a final version, I bring the experience of both a teacher and a working writer to each session.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Northwestern University and am the author of *The Mourning Report*, a published work of creative nonfiction. I have taught college-level writing and literature for more than ten years, helping students develop voice, structure, imagery, scene, reflection, and revision skills. I can support students with fiction, creative nonfiction, personal essays, memoir pieces, literary analysis, and college application essays. My approach combines close attention to language with practical feedback that helps writers make their work clearer, more vivid, and more emotionally compelling.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have taught college-level essay writing, research writing, rhetoric, and argumentation for more than ten years. I help students understand prompts, develop focused thesis statements, organize body paragraphs, integrate evidence, and revise for clarity, grammar, and flow. My experience as both a college English instructor and published author allows me to give practical, supportive feedback that strengthens a student’s ideas without taking over their voice. I can support students at every stage of the writing process, from brainstorming and outlining to revising and polishing a final draft.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

I have taught college-level writing, research writing, rhetoric, and argumentation for more than ten years, with a strong focus on helping students develop clear, specific, arguable thesis statements. I help students move from broad topics to focused claims, refine vague or overly general ideas, and build thesis statements that can support a full essay or research paper. My experience as a college English instructor and published author allows me to explain thesis development in a practical, supportive way. I can help with analytical, argumentative, research-based, literary, and personal essay thesis statements at the high school, college, and adult-learner levels.
