Hello! I’m Sammy, a History graduate from Rice University specializing in AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP Art History and AP Government. When I was a student, I found that what worked best in helping me do well in my AP History classes wasn’t just memorizing dates and names but mastering them by taking a step back. I help my students connect historical concepts to current events, visualize complicated topics or use studying strategies like flashcards to guide them through the curriculum.
As a tutor, I want to meet my students where they are, what they’re stuck on, and what techniques work best for them! A big part of doing well on the AP History exams means learning how to explain both what something is, and the “so what”, and I’m happy to help figure out what techniques students can use to develop their analytical skills and score those complexity points on their FRQs.
I bring two years of group and one-on-one teaching experience at a summer school and a community center in addition to strong AP track record. In high school, I earned a 5 in AP European History and high scores in AP U.S. History, AP U.S. Government and Politics, AP Comparative Government and Politics, AP Psychology and AP Art History. I am also very experienced in history essay writing, and can help with DBQs, LEQs, research papers, and other humanities assignments.
