Hi, I'm Benjamin! I love teaching. I am particularly good at patiently explaining difficult material. I have tutored other students in every math class I have ever been in, whether it was 7th grade algebra or Abstract Algebra III at college. Additionally, I taught programming to my classmates in the Programming Club that I cofounded at my high school.

Hi, I'm Benjamin! I love teaching. I am particularly good at patiently explaining difficult material. I have tutored other students in every math class I have ever been in, whether it was 7th grade algebra or Abstract Algebra III at college. Additionally, I taught programming to my classmates in the Programming Club that I cofounded at my high school.

I graduated from DePaul magna cum laude with a Bachelor's in Math & Computer Science. While there, I took 4 graduate-level computer science courses.

I have also won programming competitions. Along with my team of Programming Club members, I got first place in the 2019 and 2020 Lockheed Martin Cyberquest Competitions in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. I also mentored the second place team of 2020.

I use the Socratic method when teaching. For example, in order to teach a calculus formula, I will give my student a problem that needs that formula in order to be solved. Then I ask them what they would do to solve the problem. With some guideance, they are able to come up with the formula themselves. Since they are discovering it themselves, they understand it at a deeper level than memorization can provide. Students should always understand not just the how but the why.

In math classes all throughout my life, I've helped other students with understanding the subject. I've helped many friends with understanding algebra in particular. I took several courses using C in college, where I performed exceedingly well. I've also spent a lot of my own time learning about the low-level details of C and the compilation process. I also have non-Java professional programming experience from my time at Epic Systems and two startups.

I also have non-Java professional programming experience from my time at Epic Systems and two startups.

While working at the startup Akcelita, I worked on their React task management frontend. While working at the startup StartProto, I used React to build their machine shop management frontend. I've also used vanilla JavaScript for many personal projects, including Discord bots and simple HTML canvas-based video games.

While at Epic Systems, I rebuilt from the ground up an internal Python app that generically aggregated data from across a SQL database. In high school, I co-founded the Programming Club, where I taught Python to my classmates once a week. I've also used Python in several graduate-level college courses (capstone in AI, intro to image processing).

In math classes all throughout my life, I've helped other students with understanding the subject. Not only that, but I also know many useful tips and tricks for better test-taking. Using my general math knowledge and specific test-taking skills, I got a perfect 800 in SAT Math the first time I took the test.
SQL

SQL

While at Epic Systems, I rebuilt from the ground up an internal Python app that generically aggregated data from across an MS SQL Server database. I also migrated many interconnected SQL Server scripts to Fabric as part of a larger cloud migration. I've also used PostgreSQL and SQLite for personal projects.
