Hi I'm Luke! I have degrees in Mathematics from Case Western Reserve University (B.S., 2020) and Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin (M.S., 2024). During my time at these universities, I nurtured a love for teaching and helping people understand Math and Computer Science topics that are traditionally considered "challenging" by approaching them in new ways.
I have had 4 years of teaching experience as a Teaching Assistant, Head Teaching Assistant, and Instructor of several courses at the University of Wisconsin, including discrete math, data science programming, and language specific classes in Python and Matlab. I also have 2+ years of experience as a tutor, focusing on high school and college level math classes, as well as standardized test prep for the GRE, SAT, and ACT.
Students I have worked with have seen significant score improvements, and my fundamental belief as a tutor is that subjects like math that are typically considered difficult or hard to parse can be learned by anyone if they are given the correct tools and attention to help them succeed!
My recent journey has been changing careers to Actuarial Science, and I also provide tutoring for Exams P, FM, and SRM administered by the SOA. These are highly specialized exams, many of which have a sub 50% pass rate, and I would encourage students to begin studying several months before taking these exams.
To give a sense of my own academic background, I have strong scores across the standardized tests I tutor. On the ACT, I scored a 35 composite (with a 36 in both Math and Science, a 35 in English, and a 35 in Reading). While I took the ACT some years back, I've stayed current with the exam through extensive tutoring experience. On the GRE, I earned a 168 in Quantitative Reasoning, a 163 in Verbal Reasoning, and a 5.5 in the Writing section. I have also achieved perfect scores of 10 on all three Society of Actuaries exams I tutor — Exam P, Exam FM, and Exam SRM.
