Nice to meet you! I'm Amanda, a Medical Education Learning Specialist at an Ivy+ medical institution and former neuroscience researcher. I completed my undergraduate degrees at Arizona State University (go Sundevils!), where I was originally a music therapy major. While studying music therapy, I found myself fascinated with questions like "why is this so effective?" and "how does this impact the brain?", leading me to change my majors to neuroscience and psychology. I have always loved topics that involve how we learn and collaborate and human beings, conducting research in subjects ranging from collaborative problem solving to neurobiological mechanisms of chronic pain. After this, I completed my masters in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience, where I discovered my passion for teaching as a guest lecturer in chronic pain neuroscience.
I have 3 years' experience in working as a learning specialist (focusing on the neuroscience and psychology of learning), which includes USMLE preparation and a plethora of tailored resources to succeed in medical school. I also have 2 years' experience as a neuroscience and psychology tutor, with an emphasis placed on finding a learning style that truly works for each student, rather than providing information and hoping it sticks.
Given my background, I leverage scientific principles of how humans learn and understand, which means I'm also constantly learning and amending my own understanding to benefit each student I work with. While I love working with all students, I realize the importance of finding a good fit to maximize learning, so the first session is always free to discuss what works best for you. Please reach out if you have any questions, and I look forward to meeting with you!
