Hi! My name is Emily, and I've been tutoring for 6+ years as a Writing Tutor. I hold a Bachelor's degree from Roosevelt University and currently work as an editor/formatter for The Urban Writers, a ghostwriting platform for self-published books. I began tutoring in high school and now have coached countless students through high-scoring papers and assignments, scholarship-winning essays, and established doctoral theses. I've tutored papers on many different subjects, including English, psychology/social sciences, and history, and have a strong background in creative writing and journalism. I'm an expert in different essay types, including compare-and-contrast, persuasive, narrative, critical, and cause-and-effect essays. I'm also well-versed in APA, AP, MLA, and Chicago styles and can easily help with citations, references, and footnotes.
Whether you're in the pre-writing or the proofreading stage, you can expect a thoughtful, rigorous examination of your paper that will identify the strong spots and fortify the weak spots, guiding you to craft an impenetrable, well-informed argument. I approach tutoring with an encouraging yet direct attitude and will often challenge you to think outside your comfort zone. I believe in a flexible approach that takes into account your academic needs and preferences, while still emphasizing accountability, structure, and progress. In the end, my goal is for you to learn how to push and challenge yourself so that you can create comprehensive, educated writing you can be proud of.
I do not use AI programs or AI-generated content when tutoring and will not accept students who use generative AI as part of their writing process. Exceptions will be made ONLY if the assignment specifically calls for AI-usage or it is absolutely necessary for your learning needs.
