I hold a PhD in English from the University of Illinois Chicago and an MFA in Creative Writing. I've dedicated over eleven years to teaching students how to read, write, and think critically. My approach goes beyond test prep formulas and grammar drills. I focus on helping students develop genuine analytical skills and confidence in their abilities, which serve them well beyond any single exam or assignment.

I've worked with students ranging from middle school through graduate school in a variety of settings. For the past six years, I taught writing and literature at the university level, where I mentored students individually on analytical writing and critical thinking. Prior to that, I spent five years tutoring junior high and high school students in English, writing, and Spanish. As a bilingual educator fluent in both English and Spanish, I'm able to work effectively with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

For SAT and ACT preparation, my doctoral training in English gives me a distinct advantage. I don't just know the right answers—I understand the logic and reasoning behind them. I can break down complex reading passages, explain grammatical concepts in intuitive ways, and teach strategic approaches to timed tests that improve both speed and accuracy. When coaching students on college essays, I combine my teaching experience with my background as a creative writer to help them craft authentic, compelling narratives that stand out to admissions committees.

My tutoring philosophy is straightforward: I meet students where they are, identify their specific challenges, and build personalized strategies that work for their learning style. I'm patient, thorough, and committed to helping students not just achieve their goals but develop the skills and confidence to succeed independently long after our sessions end.
