ACT Math

ACT Math requires a strong foundation in algebra, geometry, functions, trigonometry, statistics, probability, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work accurately under time pressure. As a chemical engineer who has relied on mathematics extensively throughout my career, I bring both practical experience and a deep understanding of the concepts tested on the ACT. I also have extensive experience helping students develop efficient problem-solving methods and time-management techniques that are essential for success on the ACT Math section. Through targeted practice and personalized instruction, students learn how to identify common question types, avoid frequent mistakes, and maximize their performance on test day. I have successfully guided students, including my own children, through ACT Math preparation, helping them build confidence and improve their skills. Algebra 1

Algebra is a critical building block for success in mathematics, and I help students develop a strong foundation so they can solve problems with confidence—not just memorize steps. As a chemical engineer who has applied mathematical concepts throughout my career, I bring both practical insight and strong subject knowledge to my teaching. I have worked with students through the Tutoring Chicago program, where I’ve developed a clear understanding of the challenges students face in Algebra—such as turning word problems into equations, working with variables, and avoiding common mistakes in multi-step problems. My approach focuses on breaking down complex ideas into simple, logical steps and helping students understand the “why” behind each concept. This allows students to move from confusion to clarity and solve problems independently and with confidence.

Algebra 2

Algebra is the foundation of mathematics and a critical subject for success in higher-level math, science, engineering, and many standardized exams. As a chemical engineer with years of professional experience applying mathematical concepts to real-world problems, I bring both subject expertise and practical perspective to my tutoring. Through my work with students in the Tutoring Chicago program, I have developed a strong understanding of the challenges many students face when learning Algebra. Whether the difficulty involves solving equations, working with functions, graphing, factoring, or translating word problems into mathematical expressions, I focus on breaking complex concepts into clear, manageable steps. My goal is to help students build a solid understanding of Algebra, strengthen their problem-solving skills, and gain the confidence needed to succeed both in the classroom and on future exams.

Chemical Engineering

I hold a Bachelors degree (Cum Lauden) and a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering. In addition, I have 30+ years of experience in process & technology development, technical support and process design for the energy industry. Also, I successfully taught an undergraduate Mass Transfer course for a full academic year in my alma mater, in the role of Associate Professor.

ESL/ESOL

I learned English as a second language myself and have years living in the USA and Canada, exposed to environments where professional English is spoken. My own learning experience is key to understand the perspective of a foreign student. Of course, when applying to college in the US, I was required to prepare for TOEFL and thus I am very familiar with this standardized exam.

GED

I help adult learners prepare for the GED by building strong foundations in math and science, while also developing the problem-solving and test-taking skills needed to pass the exam. My approach focuses on identifying knowledge gaps, simplifying complex concepts, and building confidence step by step. I helped prepared my peer students for the succesful completion of their exams. More importantly, I have worked with adult learners to deliver training in real world settings. With a practical approach geared to successful completion of goals, I am qualified to help adult learners to prepare for GED.

Geometry

I have experience tutoring Geometry to students in high school and college. Geometry concepts were part of my day to day as an engineer working, as equipment sizing and arrangement in space is key in the chemical industry. Solving geometry problems is indeed important, but demonstrating the validity of geometry concepts will truly increase the student's understanding.

Microsoft Excel

Throughout my entire career I have used spreadsheets and Excel, of course, in particular. I am familiar with its functionalities and will be happy to work with you through specific problems or just general enquiries.

Probability

I have experience tutoring basic probability and statistics to students in high school and college. I am very familiar with Excel's tools to perform statistics and probability analysis. I have used these tools at different times during my career as engineer.

SAT Math

As an experienced SAT Math tutor and chemical engineer, I help students master the concepts tested on the SAT Math section, including algebra, advanced math, problem solving, geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis. My SAT Math lessons focus not only on content mastery but also on test-taking strategies, pacing, and accuracy. Through personalized SAT Math preparation, students gain the confidence and skills needed to achieve their target scores and prepare for future success in STEM fields.

Spanish

I am a bilingual Spanish-English speaker with extensive experience helping students develop practical, confident communication skills in Spanish while achieving their academic goals. As a Spanish tutor, I work with learners at all levels, helping them build a strong foundation in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and real-world conversation. My lessons emphasize speaking and listening first, so students gain confidence using Spanish in everyday situations while also developing accurate grammar and usage. I have taught Spanish to language-exchange (tandem) partners from around the world, leading engaging, and prepared students for AP Spanish tests. My conversation-based sessions improve fluency in natural, real-life contexts. This experience has helped me adapt my teaching to different learning styles and guide students toward more natural and effective expression. I speak Spanish with a clear, neutral Latin American accent, which helps students develop pronunciation that is widely understood across Spanish-speaking regions. My goal is to create supportive, practical lessons that help students communicate with confidence and make steady progress in their Spanish studies, no matter at what level.

TOEFL

As a TOEFL examinee myself one time (many years ago) and after living in north america for decades in professional settings where English is the only communication route, I feel more than qualified to help you in the TOEFL exam. I have used English in different contexts, including writing, speaking, listening and reading. Moreover, I understand the perspective of the foreign student.
