Hi, I'm Gabe! I am a Quantum Physics PHD student at the University of Chicago working on computational physics and have a bachelor's degree in physics from UC Santa Barbara. During my undergraduate education I got the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant for a range of physics classes including Electromagnetism, Thermodynamics, and Special Relativity. These opportunities are what showed me how impactful and enjoyable teaching can be if done correctly. I believe in helping students achieve their goals through building understanding and intuition for a subject, I also think this sort of learning is the most enjoyable as it allows for "Ah Hah!" moments as you finally begin to understand the core of whatever material you are learning. As a part of this approach, I work to develop custom lesson plans for every student. Ideally, before tutoring, you discuss with me your current level of familiarity with the subject as well as the level you want to get to and the time you want to do this in, using this I can develop a custom plan that works within these goals which could include extra practice assignments depending on what's right for you.
As a teaching assistant I got to tutor all levels of undergraduates present at UC Santa Barbara from freshman to seniors. I have experience working with large groups as a part of hosting problem sessions where I would go around and give individual students help where they were struggling and occasionally provide a lecture if one was required. I also hosted office hours where I held more dedicated one-on-one sessions with students where we could focus on whatever specific topics they were having trouble with. My final responsibility was designing problems to help students practice the material they were learning. While this teaching was mostly for physics classes it also included a lot of math as a part of what the subject requires.
I am very flexible so feel free to reach out to me with any questions or requests you may have or if you want to schedule a lesson!
