Even if you really don't like writing (I get it!), I know lots of tips and practices that can help you finish your assignments and projects while also improving your overall writing along the way.

My central goal as a tutor is to support you in your writing and writing practices—I especially love helping students gain more confidence and applicable skills. I am empathetic, caring, and calm, but I am also good at turning tasks around on a deadline.

I'm currently a professor at a large university in Chicago—I hold a PhD in English—and over the course of 20 years, I've taught numerous English courses (e.g., film, composition, and rhetoric). I served as an Assistant Director and tutor in a large university writing center for seven years, and I've also worked as a tutor for the reading and English sections of the ACT exam. Since 2005—and across high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels—I have helped hundreds of students with assignments, creative writing projects, job materials, presentations, fellowship and grant applications, dissertations, and theses. I am also well versed in helping with challenging communications that are hard to start and finish, such as emails or letters to teachers, professors, employers (and even family members). Communication is hard, but it's always easier with some support on your side.

I work across all subjects of study. While I won't promise subject matter expertise in all areas, I have worked on everything from poetry analyses to physics and chemistry dissertations, from book proposals to job presentations. No matter the subject, I am eager to learn and advise in whatever way best supports individual student's needs.

I am very comfortable working as a standalone editor / proofreader, but where I really shine is in building longer-term relationships where I get to know students, their writing style, their anxieties and their victories. I'm here for all of it!
