I received my BA in Political Science from East Tennessee State University before moving to Athens, Ohio, where I completed an MA in Political Science at Ohio University. I then earned my PhD in International Political and Comparative and Regional Studies from American University's School of International Service in Washington, DC. Over the past seventeen years, I've taught at both public and private universities across the United States, working with students primarily between eighteen and twenty-four years old, though I've also had the privilege of teaching older adults returning to complete their degrees. My classroom experience ranges from intimate seminars of five students to larger courses of twenty-five, and I've taught in both traditional in-person settings and online formats.
My teaching portfolio spans the core areas of political science and international relations, including research methods, international relations theory, political economy, security studies, and US foreign policy. I've also had the opportunity to teach creative writing, which reflects my parallel commitment to narrative and storytelling as modes of understanding political life. Throughout my career, I've worked extensively with student writing, editing and guiding students as they develop their analytical voices and learn to make rigorous arguments about complex global issues.
This breadth of experience—across institutional types, classroom sizes, delivery formats, and subject matter—has shaped my pedagogical approach and deepened my understanding of how students learn to think critically about politics, power, and international affairs.
