I am a physician-scientist and professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago, where I lead a translational research laboratory focused on cardiometabolic disease, vascular biology, and molecular mechanisms of chronic illness. I hold an MD and PhD and have received competitive national funding from the NIH and the American Heart Association. My academic training spans molecular biology, physiology, pathology, and translational research, which allows me to tutor effectively in core biomedical sciences, experimental design, and scientific reasoning for both PhD and medical trainees.

I have over ten years of teaching and mentoring experience across multiple educational levels and settings. I regularly teach and mentor PhD students, medical students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff through one-on-one mentoring, small-group instruction, and classroom-based teaching. My experience includes guiding trainees in research project design, data interpretation, multi-omics analysis, manuscript and grant writing, and preparation for qualifying exams. I have also worked extensively with medical students on physiology, pathophysiology, and clinically relevant integration of basic science concepts. My teaching approach emphasizes conceptual understanding, problem-solving, and applying knowledge to real research or clinical scenarios rather than rote memorization.

Through individualized tutoring, I adapt my methods to each student’s goals, background, and learning style. I have worked with early-stage graduate students building foundational skills, advanced PhD candidates refining projects or publications, and medical students preparing for exams or research experiences. My goal as a tutor is to help students develop confidence, independence, and long-term mastery of material, whether they are pursuing academic research, clinical training, or combined career paths.

Genetics

Genetics

I am a physician-scientist and professor with extensive training in human genetics, molecular biology, and epigenetics, with a research focus on gene regulation in metabolic and cardiovascular disease. I teach and mentor graduate and medical students in genetics, genomics, and translational applications of genetic discoveries to human health. My experience includes guiding students through core genetic principles, inheritance patterns, gene expression, and interpretation of experimental and clinical genetic data. In tutoring, I emphasize conceptual understanding and application of genetics to research design, disease mechanisms, and exam preparation.
Nutrition

Nutrition

I am a physician-scientist and professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago and an affiliated faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition. I teach graduate-level courses, including Bioactive Food Components, and mentor students in nutritional biochemistry, metabolism, and the role of diet in chronic disease. My research and teaching integrate molecular mechanisms, physiology, and clinical relevance, allowing students to understand nutrition from both a mechanistic and translational perspective. I have over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring graduate and medical students in one-on-one and small-group settings, with an emphasis on critical thinking and application rather than memorization.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

I am a physician-scientist and professor in the Department of Medicine with extensive experience teaching pharmacology in the context of physiology, pathophysiology, and clinical medicine. My training and research focus on cardiometabolic disease, endocrinology, and molecular mechanisms of drug action, allowing me to explain pharmacologic principles from both a mechanistic and clinical perspective. I have over ten years of experience teaching and mentoring medical students, graduate students, and trainees in one-on-one and small-group settings. My tutoring emphasizes understanding drug mechanisms, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and clinical application rather than memorization, helping students build durable knowledge for exams and patient care.
