Hello, I am Kyra. I am a student at the University of Chicago pursuing a degree in East Asian Languages and Civilizations (specialization: Korean). While I am currently based in Chicago, I am from New York City.
I have been studying Korean since I was in middle school and have studied abroad in Korea twice. The first time I studied abroad was through the Langubridge program at Hanyang University, and the second time was through the SPARKS program at Seoul National University.
I am currently enrolled in 3rd year advanced Korean at UChicago. This is a course sequence that "introduces a wide selection of authentic reading materials from Korean newspaper articles, college-level textbooks, and literary prose as an entry point to discuss topics and issues in Korean society, culture, and history." (from the UChicago course catalog). I define my fluency in the language as a professional working capacity, and I understand what it is like to start learning Korean from scratch as a native English speaker.
I am comfortable teaching students with no knowledge up to intermediate proficiency in the language, and I have the most experience working with elementary and middle school students, but I am also comfortable working with high schoolers.
