I am a dedicated educator with over a decade of college-level teaching experience, specializing in composition, rhetoric, literature, and interdisciplinary humanities. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that writing is not only a practical skill but also a powerful tool for critical inquiry, personal expression, and empowerment. Whether I am working with first-year students in developmental writing, multilingual learners, or advanced undergraduates in literature and theory, I strive to create a learning environment where every student feels respected, challenged, and supported.
I bring to tutoring the same values that guide my classroom practice: service, excellence, respect, accountability, and empathy. Service means meeting students where they are, listening carefully to their goals, and helping them build the skills and confidence to achieve them. Excellence and accountability shape my approach to feedback—I provide clear, specific, and actionable guidance while holding myself responsible for student growth. Respect and empathy ensure that students feel their voices matter; I encourage them to take intellectual risks in a supportive space where their ideas are treated with care.
My background includes dual doctorates from the University of Chicago, where I trained in Comparative Literature and Religion & Visual Culture, as well as teaching appointments at the University of Tennessee, New York University, and Baruch College (CUNY). Students and faculty consistently describe me as approachable, knowledgeable, and deeply invested in student success.
As a tutor, I work with students on everything from essay structure, research methods, and rhetorical awareness to creative projects and multimodal assignments. I aim to make the writing process less intimidating and more rewarding—helping students not only improve their work but also develop as confident, independent thinkers.
