Nakisha R.

I am a first-generation college graduate and doctorate holder with a Bachelor of Science degree from Spelman College and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (Molecular Biology & Immunoengineering). My academic journey has been driven by a deep passion for science education and mentorship, which I have translated into both professional and community-based teaching. Over the past several years, I have built a strong foundation in STEM education through formal study, hands-on experience, and curriculum development, including digital STEM resources for young learners.

With more than 10 years of private tutoring experience, I specialize in supporting students from grades 4th-12th and College in math and science, as well as preparing them for AP exams and college entrance tests such as the SAT and ACT. My teaching approach emphasizes culturally relevant, hands-on learning that connects concepts to students’ lived experiences, helping them build both confidence and curiosity.

Beyond private tutoring, I founded Sci In the City, a nonprofit in Chicago providing free STEM programming and exposure to STEM professionals for at-risk youth, and I develop age-appropriate digital workbooks and activities through STEMulating Potential, LLC. My experience spans one-on-one tutoring, small group instruction, and larger workshop-style teaching, always rooted in my mission to make STEM accessible, engaging, and empowering for all students.
