Hi! I’m Joseph Z, a fourth-year medical student currently completing a radiology research fellowship. I graduated summa cum laude from Concordia University Wisconsin with a degree in Biomedical Sciences, and also completed an advanced biochemistry minor at Marquette University.

I’ve been tutoring for over four years across a wide range of academic levels and subjects. During undergrad, I served as a science teacher and course assistant, which sparked my passion for education. I then worked professionally with Huntington Learning Center and Nurturing Wisdom, where I tutored ACT, SAT, and subject-specific content (especially Math and Science) for high school students.

At the collegiate level, I tutored MCAT prep through Loyola University Chicago, and currently provide USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 tutoring through both Select Med Tutors and Loyola's peer support programs, helping medical students strengthen clinical reasoning and exam strategy.

My teaching approach is highly individualized, combining high-yield content review with practical test-taking techniques. I’ve worked with students one-on-one and in small groups, helping them grow in confidence, skill, and performance. Whether you're aiming to master the ACT, tackle the MCAT, or prepare for your USMLEs, I’m here to help you succeed with clarity and strategy.

College Counseling

College Counseling

I am a 4th year medical student who has mentored high school and college students through the entire admissions process—ranging from college applications to medical school acceptance. I’ve helped students craft standout personal statements, prepare for interviews, and strategically build their application profiles. I’ve also sat on the admissions committee for a medical school, giving me firsthand insight into what makes applicants truly stand out. Whether you're applying to college, post-grad programs, or pre-health tracks, I bring both experience and results.
Genetics

Genetics

I am a medical student with over four years of tutoring experience, specializing in genetics and biological sciences. I’ve helped students ranging from high school to pre-med master Mendelian inheritance, Punnett squares, molecular genetics, and advanced concepts like epigenetics and gene regulation. My approach focuses on simplifying dense material with visual aids, practice questions, and real-life applications — especially useful for MCAT or college exams. Whether you're tackling tricky pedigree charts or preparing for a final, I’ll make sure you build both confidence and clarity.
MCAT

MCAT

I am a medical student with a strong foundation in MCAT content and strategy, having scored a 513 on the exam. I have experience tutoring pre-med students in all sections of the MCAT, with a particular focus on high-yield science topics and CARS reasoning skills. My teaching approach emphasizes active recall, spaced repetition, and strategic practice tailored to each student's unique learning style. I also help students build confidence by integrating clinical relevance and real-world application into MCAT preparation.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

As a medical student with a strong foundation in neuroscience, I have tutored over 30 students in neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and clinical neurology. My experience includes simplifying complex pathways like the basal ganglia, limbic system, and cranial nerve functions for students preparing for exams such as Step 1 and shelf exams. I emphasize high-yield concepts, clinical correlations, and active recall strategies to ensure deep understanding and retention. Whether you're learning foundational concepts or reviewing for board exams, I can help tailor sessions to your learning style and goals.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

As a current medical student at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, I served on the admissions committee where I reviewed applications, conducted interviews, and contributed to final admissions decisions. I’ve successfully helped students gain acceptance to both undergraduate and medical schools by guiding them through the personal statement process. My tutoring background includes support in preclinical courses such as anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, and I also completed advanced writing coursework during undergrad. I focus on helping students craft personal statements that are structured, authentic, and aligned with the values of their target programs.
Pharmacology

Pharmacology

I have extensive experience tutoring medical school pharmacology and have worked with over 30 medical students across various systems-based curricula. Having completed multiple in-depth pharmacology courses during medical school, I’m well-versed in mechanisms of action, side effect profiles, and high-yield clinical applications. I specialize in simplifying complex drug pathways and reinforcing long-term retention through active recall techniques. Whether you’re preparing for coursework or board exams, I can tailor sessions to your individual learning needs.
USMLE

USMLE

I am a medical student who has successfully completed both Step 1 (Pass) and Step 2 CK with a score of 248. I have experience tutoring fellow medical students in both pre-clinical and clinical subjects, using an approach focused on high-yield integration, NBME-style question analysis, and efficient resource management. My sessions emphasize concept mastery, clinical reasoning, and test-taking strategy tailored to each student’s learning needs. I also guide students on how to effectively use resources like UWorld, First Aid, and Anki for long-term retention and exam performance.
