Im Craig! I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. I realized after I graduated I decided to go back to school and get my Master’s at Columbia in Math Education. When taking classes at Columbia I realized what kind of teacher I wanted to be. I wanted to be the type of teacher that students could come to to ask questions, I wanted to be the type of teacher that could work with students who really struggle but also with students that need to be challenged with a thirst for mathematics. I have also been a High School Basketball Coach for 8 years and won 5 state titles.
I try to make learning a pleasant and fun experience. I strongly believe that the more practice and the more problems someone does in math the greater the understanding of the topic being covered. We can do this by just doing problems on the subject from a worksheet, we can do this by playing games or we can create our own problems and have a conversation about the work. The more comfortable students are with the topic being covered the more questions they may have and eventually the better the understanding.
I have been a math teacher/tutor for almost 20 years. I can teach/tutor anywhere from 3rd grade all the way through Pre-calculus. I was the primary teacher in the classroom creating lesson plans and trying to help students grow as mathematicians. I try to tailor my lessons to the students and what they feel comfortable with, all while they are pushed to learn the material and enjoy what they are working on.
Whether it be in the classroom or on the basketball court students will work hard and achieve their goals. I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible, therefore I ask for feedback and welcome any resources students or parents can provide. I am easy to reach and always provide a fast response. Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
