Hi! I’m Heami, and I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering (3.9 GPA), where I studied Computer Science with a double minor in Linguistics and Asian Studies. I hold a Master of Arts in History from University College London, where I specialized in cultural history.
I tutor math, writing, English, and computer science (Python and C++) for high school, middle school, and AP levels. I also provide test preparation for the SAT and ACT. For standardized test preparation, I teach students the question types that show up again and again, equip them with effective strategies for each problem type, and work on pacing so they feel confident and ready to succeed on test day. I received perfect scores on the SAT and ACT (1600 and 36, respectively) and have tutored the SAT/ACT since 2017.
I also tutor writing, including personal statements for college and scholarship applications as well as school essays and creative writing. With college application essays, I help students refine their stories, emphasize their personal strengths, and find a voice that is clear, authentic, and memorable to admissions committees. My own academic and creative writing has appeared in multiple journals and received recognition from the University of Michigan’s Hopwood and Cooley Writing Contests.
In my teaching, I begin by identifying each student’s current understanding and goals, then build conceptual knowledge alongside structured practice, with targeted feedback and support so students become independent problem-solvers. I encourage students to build confidence and take ownership of their learning, which builds confidence and metacognitive skills like planning, self-monitoring, and reflection. The aim is long-term success, so that students are able to transfer what they’ve learned to new problems, future courses, and real-world contexts.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson. I look forward to working with you!
