Hi everyone, I'm Michael! I graduated from the University of Chicago with a Master of Public Health, concentration in Data Science, as well as a Bachelor's in Economics, minoring in Statistics, from the same university. I am currently employed as a Biostatistician at a leading hospital in Boston, with previous roles as a statistical programmer at AbbVie Pharmaceuticals, and a business administration analyst with UChicago Med. My entire life, I have had a fascination with learning itself, seeking to understand concepts at their fundamental building blocks. This approach allows me to not only grasp concepts, but develop them from the ground up and understand how, where, and why they apply. This also translates over to my tutoring philosophy, where I strive to give students the tools to learn a concept thoroughly through building it up from base principles. My methodology is flexible, as different tools work for different students, but the idea remains the same; working through a concept at a high level so that they understand it completely and comprehensively.
I have years of experience within the academic system at the collegiate level as a Teaching Assistant, having held positions for courses in Calculus II, Calculus III, Regression Analysis, and Epidemiology since 2023. In these roles, I have held class-wide lectures, one-on-one meetings, and small group office hours focusing on help with course material. Prior to this, I organized and led study sessions for various courses in statistical theory and methods.
Truly learning something is difficult, and I recognize that this process looks different for everyone. I'm flexible to the methods that best allow a student to prosper, and I operate with the mindset of frequently touching base on whether something is working. I am happy to work with any materials people come to me with, and want to tailor the experience to exactly what a student is looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions!
