Hi! I'm Westin, and I’m excited about the opportunity to help students grow in STEM subjects through personalized, approachable tutoring.
I hold a Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University, where I explored complex topics like neuroscience, genetics, tissue engineering, and computational biology. My coursework and research have given me a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, physics, and math — all of which I’m passionate about breaking down into clear, understandable steps for students at any level.
In terms of teaching experience, I’ve worked one-on-one with students through Page by Page, a mentorship program where I helped an elementary school student improve their reading skills. While this was literacy-focused, it taught me how to build trust, explain concepts in simple ways, and develop creative strategies to support different learning styles — all skills I now apply in STEM tutoring.
In the lab, I’ve often taken the lead on training newer team members and guiding them through technical methods like tissue culture, microscopy, and data analysis. These informal teaching moments required a lot of patience, clear communication, and encouragement, especially when peers were learning complex techniques for the first time.
My tutoring approach is all about meeting students where they are. I focus on:
Breaking down difficult concepts into simple, relatable terms
Using visuals or analogies when helpful (I’ve found those to be game-changers!)
Helping students build confidence as they master each step
Creating a safe space where questions are always welcome
Whether working with middle school, high school, or college students, I aim to be a supportive guide who helps turn frustration into progress — and ideally, into genuine interest and curiosity.
