Hello! I'm Matthew and I tutor math. I have an extensive high school math competition background and continued to study mathematics in college where I graduated from UIUC in three years. I graduated from Walter Payton College Prep where I received the Math Department scholarship. I was the highest USAMO index in Chicago Public Schools two years in a row and was 1st in Illinois on the 2011 Putnam Exam.

I have been doing 1-on-1 tutoring all high school math classes from algebra 1 to AP calculus for the past two years, working with students ranging from 8th grade to high school seniors. I have worked with students that are really struggling, and some who are aiming to get ahead in school. My students often tell me I give much better explanations than their teacher. In a 1-on-1 environment I am able to focus on tackling any misunderstandings and can teach in a more intuitive way than a regular school teacher would. In school too often students are too focused on memorization and getting correct answers where my approach is focused on understanding the logic and organizing logic through student explanations. I teach my students to get into good habits and focus on showing great solutions not just crunching numbers and getting to the answer.
