I’ve also had the privilege of teaching Cinematography as an Adjunct Professor at USC, becoming one of the youngest faculty members hired. I taught the Intro to Cinematography lab for 4 semesters, which was a combination of in-class technical lectures, as well as creative labs on Sound Stages, where students learned the fundamentals of lighting for film.
I believe that one must understand the technicals and fundamentals of the art and science of cinematography to make then be free to make the creative choices to best tell the story.
