I am an MFA alumna of CalArts where I studied piano and music technology with Grammy-awarded faculty and served as a session musician, premiered new classical music works, and served I opera productions. Greetings! My name is Kate and I'll be thrilled to be your creative mentor in piano, musicianship skills (theory, composition, music production, songwriting), admissions writing, and French. I am an MFA alumna of CalArts where I studied piano and music technology with Grammy-awarded faculty and served as a session musician, premiered new classical music works, and served I opera productions. I am also a BA alumna of Pomona College where I underwent extensive music theory training, and a college-preparatory boarding school alumna of the Hotchkiss School.

I am happy to help you pursue piano from scratch or/and at an advanced level, work on your specific project goals or help you set some if you are lost, help apply piano training to more broadly creative avenues, help you craft admissions essays from interview sessions, help pick the right college or prep school for you, and tutor French, which I've pursued competitively up to collegiate level.

I am proficient in Sibelius, Logic Pro, ProTools, Ableton, drum controllers, orchestration and arrangement techniques and will help you find ease and methods for your unique visions and goals. I will support you in expanding your musical horizons via exposure to new music and assist in translating this gathered exposure into actionable inspiration fuel.

French

I have passed SAT French, and DALF C1 (advanced) French exams and was accepted to French universities. I have taken advanced collegiate coursework in francophone topics and attended youth politics conferences in France. I read, sing, and rap in French and have won school awards and competitions in French and done much creative writing and editing with enthusiasm. I would love to help you set up a plan for success in making French a part of your daily routine: easy and pleasant.

I have studied harp from scratch in college and graduate school and performed in an orchestra and solo. I have experience writing session harp music for pop songs.

MFA performer-composer from the California Institute of the Arts where I studied with Vicki Ray of the LA Chamber Orchestra and the LA Phil New Music Group. Played classical pieces such as the Gershwin piano concerto in F, experimental new music pieces such as the music of George Crumb, and new music premieres by contemporary living composers. Served as opera repetiteur in opera productions, as worship pianist at churches, as vocal accompanist, in chamber groups, in orchestras, and on pop songs. Skilled at teaching piano for pop songwriters and making scores.

I have presented a graduate recital made up of innovative alternative pop songs and have taken graduate coursework in advanced songwriting and production techniques. I am an award-winning published poet.

I have over 15 years of experience in admissions coaching and writing with cases of admissions to top schools such as Pomona College, Wesleyan University, boarding schools like Andover Phillips Academy and the Hotchkiss School, as well as international schools and art programs.
