Hello all, my name is Karlvin. I was born in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti and moved to the New Jersey at age of 6. I am now a third year at the University of Chicago. At the college, I am studying Mathematics, Chemistry, and History while also partaking in the colleges Pre-Medical Program. I have always had a passion for learning, and this is a passion I wish to share with as many as I can.

I first started tutoring/teaching my freshmen year in high school where I worked with Junior Achievement. helping kids, K-6, motivating and teaching them about entrepreneurial thought and business acumen. Then, in my junior year I worked with my school to tutor my classmates that were struggling. The subjects I helped with ranged from math, chemistry, biology, US history, and English. Then, in my first year of college, I worked at MetroSquash, acting as both a guidance counselor and math tutor for high school and middle school students. Now, ever since summer of 2023, I have been working Seriously Addictive Mathematics as an instructor, teaching children ages 4-13, the Singaporean math and English curriculum.

My preferred approach with my students is to challenge them to think critically. I understand that every student is different, so, in response, I choose to take a varied approach, individualized for each student. For students who need a rigorous process to solve problems, I teach them a methodology that can be repeated to solve for similar questions. For students who thrive in a more creative atmosphere, I instead teach them concepts, giving them the tools they need to be able to put the pieces together for any problem that may come there way.
