Hey! I’m Grant, I fell in love with teaching quite a long time ago and have been seeking out opportunities ever since. I graduated from Loyola Chicago’s mathematics program in 2023 and am currently taking a break before going back for a masters degree. During my time in undergrad, I spent 7 of my 8 semesters working at the tutoring center; the first one was spent applying and interviewing with them. I worked as a supplemental instructor, which is an undergraduate teaching assistant that attends an assigned class and later holds tutoring sessions with those same students. In my junior and senior year, I was also a pod leader, which is one of twelve tutors that oversee all of the other ones. I ended up being a tutor for math and well, a tutor for tutoring.

I was fortunate to find a place that held the same values as me when it comes to teaching. First and foremost, time with students needs to be a positive and safe learning environment: I heavily value acceptance and understanding of everybody. I love getting to know my students and adapt my teaching style to how they best learn. Some students only need practice problems and occasional hints while others learn best from watching examples done by me (I learn best the latter way personally). I’ve gotten plenty of practice with adapting in both group tutoring and one-on-one settings, primarily with college students. I’ve also tutored elementary-high school students in the past, although recently it’s mostly been my younger siblings in that department.

I am comfortable tutoring in-person and over zoom. The middle of my undergraduate years were online thanks to the pandemic, so I’ve experienced both being a student and a teacher over it quite a bit. I am happy to accommodate for any needs my students may have so long as it’s in my power to change :)
