I am an elementary school special education teacher with Chicago Public Schools. I have worked with K-8th graders of all ability levels in all subjects, and currently teach 4th graders in both Inclusion and Resource settings. I have extensive experience working with students who have academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs related to diagnoses of Autism, ADHD, OCD, ODD, Mild Intellectual Disability, Developmental Delay, and Specific Learning Disabilities such as Dyslexia and Dysgraphia.
I take a strengths-based approach to teaching, addressing students’ foundational gaps alongside encouraging students to interact with grade-level content. I have experience implementing many different Tiers I, II, and III curricula for math (Eureka, Pearson, TouchMath), and reading (Wilson, Words Their Way, Expeditionary Learning, Lucy Caulkins, Fountas & Pinnell) with fidelity. I meet children where they are at, adopt shared language, and emphasize academic vocabulary when 1:1 tutoring.
I believe that every child has the capacity to enjoy learning and succeed in school. This process starts with fostering kiddos natural curiosities, while also explicitly teaching them how to find the answers to the things they want to know. I would love to learn more about your individual child’s needs and how we can work together to help them tune in to learning.
