Experienced flute teacher (10+ years performing, 6 years teaching), all ages welcome.
I use a goal-oriented approach with my students, and use students' own curiosity and desire for growth to help keep them excited about learning flute. I believe that learning the flute should help a student progress while being engaging, specialized to the student, and fun!
I have experience with students from all backgrounds (ex. making their first sound, preparing for auditions, learning music for retired enjoyment). For students looking to enter music professionally, I use a variety of methods, including research-supported Alexander Technique, meditation, and practicing techniques, to prepare for the mental, physical, and musical challenges involved in high-pressure performance.
I have experience teaching the basics (how to read music, how to make your first sound on flute), as well as more intermediate to advanced skills (managing performance anxiety, preparing for auditions, developing vibrato and intonation, musical interpretation, performing under pressure, etc).
My qualifications include a Master's degree from Carnegie Mellon and a Bachelor's from UCLA, as well as regular performances with professional ensembles (Lyric Opera of Chicago, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, and others). Primary teachers include Alberto Almarza, Diana Morgan, Sheridon Stokes, and Dr. Jeannine Dennis.
