I spent four years learning the best-practices in tutoring pedagogy while working at my college’s writing center. I specialized in helping students conduct research and write essays in the subjects of literature, history, philosophy, and religious studies. I also coached applicants as they wrote essays for grad school, med school, and Fulbright applications.

I honed my own skills in research, writing, and editing as a postgraduate in ancient history and religious studies. Simultaneously, I worked for professors, advisors, and academic departments as they researched, prepared manuscripts and articles, and developed coursework and conferences. As a tutoring fellow for the Prison Teaching Initiative, I trained, led, and collaborated with a team of over 30 tutors supporting incarcerated students in NJ.

I am an intuitive and adaptive tutor, seeking to learn as much about you and your learning style as I do about your work or project. Here are some values that animate my approach:

-Curiosity- Being your tutor doesn’t mean I have all the answers. It means I know how to ask questions that will help you find answers—in your own idiom and according to your own strengths.

-Empathy- Learning can be scary and overwhelming, especially when we need to ask for help. My priority in a tutoring session is making you feel safe and empowered in all the ways you show up in the learning process.

-Student-Centered- Learning is not one-size-fits-all and tutoring shouldn’t be either. In my tutoring practice, I attend to the needs of each student and will adapt our approach to work with your strengths.

-Accessibility- Everyone should be able to access knowledge and learn in the way that best supports them. In my tutoring sessions, we will work together to identify potential barriers and create the best ways for you to access learning.

I have archaeological field school experience from the Huqoq Excavation Project in the Lower Galilee. In addition, much of my graduate work in the ancient world has required regular engagement with archaeological sources and methods. I have regular experience navigating and interpreting archaeological notes and material culture.

I have had 4+ courses during my undergraduate and graduate studies with specific specialization in biblical studies. I completed a PhD comprehensive exam on the New Testament and one in Rabbinic Judaism, which focused on Jewish interpretations of the Hebrew Bible. Alongside this pedagogical experience, I offer my own expertise in essay writing that I gained during my nine years of academic work in the humanities. With a BA, MTS, and MA, I have refined my own essay writing process while learning from the strengths of writers and instructors I have had the privilege to know.

As a part of my program requirements, I have completed advanced coursework in the fundamental methodologies of religious studies.

From the time I started my academic work, I have been trained and gained experience in developing thesis projects. I received instruction in large scale research and thesis work as an undergraduate honors student in the humanities. I built on this foundation over the course of two masters in history/religious studies, gaining new skills and approaches as I wrote my own theses and workshopped those of my professors and peers. I have also been invited by my professors and advisors to consult and collaborate on manuscript projects. My experience as a developmental editor gives me an edge on thesis writing, honing my ability to assess big picture concerns without losing an eye for essential details.
