UIUC Graduate Tutor Proficient in English & Japanese

I recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BA in Japanese language & culture. I studied abroad in the Kansai region of Japan to further develop my Japanese language & culture proficiency. My most pertinent tutoring experience took place in the Fall of 2022, where I worked as a Tutor of Reading and English for the America Reads/America Counts Program. I also served as a teaching assistant in the Exigent Program, where I taught pre-algebra to middle school students & rising high school freshman from 2018 to 2021. I later served as a Field Coordinator for MAPSCorps in the summer of 2022, where I created & then instructed students on research gathering methodology.

I primarily have experience teaching students in the elementary and middle school ranges, and this was the age range of my students in the America Reads/America Counts & Exigent Programs. I instructed high school students during MAPSCorps and I am capable of working with high school students as needed. My experiences all occurred under the context of classroom instruction, where I developed my ability to create engaging experiences for students. By instructing on the given subject matter while providing appealing demonstrations, I believe students can effectively learn and understand new concepts. I can also effectively adapt to problematic situations, as with MAPSCorps the methodology for research gathering did not exist. I worked with my team to create the methodology and later implement it during the program.
