I have been working as an artist and educator for nearly a decade now. Outside of my work as a tutor, I work as a part-time Art Lecturer at the College-level and a painting and drawing instructor at local Art Centers. I also worked for a non-profit after-school program. I have been working as an artist and educator for nearly a decade now. Outside of my work as a tutor, I work as a part-time Art Lecturer at the College-level and a painting and drawing instructor at local Art Centers. I also worked for a non-profit after-school program. Before these jobs, I worked as a graduate student instructor and prior to that, I taught overseas for 3 years at a secondary school for children and adults. To date, I have worked with over 1,000 students of varying ages, arts experience, and socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. I pride myself on being able to adapt each lesson to meet the needs of every student. I am excited at the prospect of meeting new students through Wyzant as well.

My work as a practicing artist and my previous studies at art institutions directly inform my tutoring sessions as well. My artwork focuses on representational drawing and painting methodologies, specifically gesture, anatomy, and chiaroscuro. I have honed a deep suite of expressive capabilities through mediums such as graphite, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, oils, and collage, among other materials and techniques. These technical skills are further bolstered by contemporary and art historical knowledge that provides context and insights. I am keenly aware that canonical art historical knowledge can sometimes discourage students from recognizing that their voices have a place in the art world, and I work to expand the sources that I reference in my classes to include historically underrepresented artists, female artists, artists of color, and lgbtqia+ voices.

With my students the fostering of care, attention, and confidence within the lesson not only makes it easier to reach the students’ academic, personal, or professional goals, but this also helps them feel seen and primes them to help others beyond the classroom feel the same.
