Hello, my name is Rene and I hope that I get the chance to help you along in your journey. What I may lack in experience I make up for in spirit and a desire to teach. My educational background started off in the traditional sense. I went to Northeastern Illinois University on the north side of Chicago. I double majored in Secondary Education/English and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree. During this time I volunteered as a tutor teaching English to adults 1 on 1, for a few months, at the Chinese Mutual Aid Association. I also have classroom experience as I did student teaching at Wells Community Academy High School in the West Town neighborhood in Chicago.
I was ready to get out into the world of teaching but life had other plans for me.
Here is where it goes untraditional. I went out into the world and let it teach me. I was a bike messenger throughout college and it stuck. I met many different people with inspiring passions. I met artist, musicians, future lawyers, fireman, police, etc. I was so inspired and learned so much from experiencing them. I took my desire of learning and experiencing life on the road. I travelled with a backpack and a train pass across Canada and the US. I then took the adventure to Europe where I travelled, for a few months, again with a backpack and a Eurail pass. I met so many people, from all walks of life and culture, and saw so much history with my own eyes. With my own eyes I saw the Mona Lisa, Statue of David, Picassos, The Colosseum, The Vatican, etc. With these experiences and life lessons I feel that I can teach in a way that is passionate, fun and inspiring. I want to help. I want to make it as educational as possible in real world settings. I also want us to have a lot of fun and I would also use my nerdiness to my advantage! I love movies, TV, comic books, Tabletop RPGs and I also am a DM in Dungeons and Dragons. Oh yes, there will also be structure to the madness! I promise I will give you my all. Thank you.
