American History

American History

I have a doctorate degree in political science and a master’s degree in government and politics. In graduate school, I studied political philosophy. In 1995, I began tutoring undergraduates in political science. In 2001, I started teaching at the college level. In my capacity as a graduate student, I led weekly discussion sections. I graded and provided feedback for exams, term papers, and other assignments. For three semesters, I taught US Congress to upperclassmen. I've also taught political theory, pre-law, and introduction to American government courses. As a graduate student, I completed coursework on American history, public opinion, constitutionalism, political theory (both modern and contemporary), and all aspects of the US political system.
Classics

Classics

I have taught ancient political thought for 2 decades. All of the major works by Plato, Aristotle, Machiavelli, St. Thomas, St. Augustine, as well as Greek and Roman history and law.
English

English

I assist students with any and every aspect of the writing process in English (i.e., brainstorming ideas, constructing arguments, organizing, strategizing, reviewing, proofreading, providing substantive feedback, etc.). As a professor, I’ve worked with undergraduate and graduate students. I’m patient, I’m organized, and I firmly believe that there’s no such thing as a dumb question. Asking for help is actually the most difficult part of the writing process — I promise it gets easier from here! Overall, I’ve spent about two decades working with students to improve their writing skills. As an instructor, I’ve graded hundreds of essays (I know what professors are looking for). As a graduate student, I wrote countless long-form essays and I published an academic book as a professor.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

Literature

Literature

I have a deep love of American and English literature. More broadly, during past years, I've helped undergraduates and graduate students with essay writing and English. I facilitated understanding of organization, argumentation, citations, and grammar through questioning and dialogue. I am the author of a novel and an academic book.
Philosophy

Philosophy

I am exceedingly well-versed in the entire western canon, with a specialty in political philosophy and the history of political thought. I have taught thinkers such as Plato, Aristotle, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Hegel, Marx, and philosophers all the way to to the 21st century. I published a book with Cambridge University Press.

World History

World History

I have an extensive background in World History. My unique area of strength is in preparing students for the AP essays, Document-Based Questions (DBQ) and the Long Essay Question (LEQ). I have been teaching Intellectual History for over 15 years, and I am certified in Social Studies in the state of Florida. I have taught Ancient Political Thought for 22 years, and the US History for 12 years (esp., constitutionalism and the presidency). The AP History essays can sometimes be daunting, but that burden can be removed with a well-organized, systematic approach to your essays.
