I'm Yalemzewod (Yalem for short)! At Loyola University of Chicago, I was an undergraduate tutor at the writing center, and through that experience, I counseled other college students one-on-one through online consultations. I interacted with students from diverse backgrounds and addressed the specific needs of each individual in each session. Also, I have experience writing undergraduate and graduate papers utilizing MLA and APA citation formats and in various subjects such as the humanities, creative writing, natural sciences, and scientific research.
I spent over a year volunteering at World Relief, tutoring elementary ESL students (6-8th grade) in English, reading, grammar, and writing. I developed weekly lesson plans and utilized various online tools to make the sessions enjoyable and informational. If there were specific school assignments students wanted to work on, we would complete those initially before proceeding with the lesson for the day.
My specialties include thesis development, paragraph organization, outlining, proofreading, and editing. I can provide support with essays, research papers, and reports. Also, I can provide editing and proofreading services during sessions or separately by highlighting any errors in citations, word choice, and sentence structure while offering recommendations to improve your writing. I believe the best way to develop as a writer is to hone in on your voice and style. My role as a writing tutor is to support you and make suggestions that will encourage your growth as a writer.
