I enjoy helping people reach goals that matter to them—whether that means communicating more confidently in another language, earning a stronger grade on a paper, or finally getting a long-stalled article ready for publication.
A scholar and university instructor, I have taught students in the United States and Europe and published numerous peer-reviewed studies. I earned my PhD at KU Leuven, including a graduate exchange period at the University of Cambridge in the UK, and later completed my Habilitation—the German postdoctoral qualification beyond the PhD—at the University of Mannheim. My teaching has ranged across ancient, medieval, and world history, classical literature, and other humanities subjects.
I offer tutoring and academic coaching in the humanities to learners at all stages, from high school and college students to graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other scholars. My particular strengths are history, research skills, textual interpretation, and academic writing.
My approach is collaborative and individualized: Our work is tailored to your goals, whether you need help understanding difficult material, analyzing sources, developing an argument, or improving a piece of academic writing. For longer writing projects, I like to ask clients to share a published article or chapter in their field that they regard as a model of analysis, argument, and presentation. This helps me understand what they are aiming for and shape my feedback accordingly.
I also offer German and French tutoring, from general language learning to advanced and academic reading. Having lived in Germany for ten years and taught at three German universities, I am especially well positioned to help students and researchers work with German-language scholarship.
