My name is Renee and I am a retired teacher with 26 years in the classroom. I have been extremely fortunate to have taught a variety of students, from special education to Advanced Placement; from inner city urban to suburban to rural settings; and everyone else in between.
I discovered my love of US History when I chose to go back to school. I began my higher education at our local community college. My instructor used videos, outside sources to read and analyze, and/or group projects. From here I enrolled at the University of Illinois, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education/Social Studies.
As a teacher, I like for my students to learn the basics of an era; the who, what, where, when, and how. Then I like to bring in the "big picture story" focusing on the why. From there, I want my students to apply this information on their "level," -- how did this topic affect where live or its impact on their family's history. This is where the students get to be creative with choices of projects to show their depth of knowledge and understanding.
While I have not done any online tutoring, I am experienced in tutoring from my days in the classroom. One example is when I came to school on early Saturday mornings to have my Advanced Placements experience the format, timing, and general knowledge of what their actual exam will be like. I am a firm believer in providing study guides for tests, teaching study strategies for a test, and test preparation.
I will give you, as my student the same dedication and assistance so that you become successful in your class.
