As well as help with software, I can give you advice on color theory and selection, choosing the best fonts and give you ideas based on art history.

My students consider my class hard work and also very rewarding. I will help you develop your eye as well as your software skills. Creativity and software skills go hand in hand. I was a tutor all through college which led me to be hired as an instructor in my department. I am very used to explaining things in a logical and easy to understand manner. I have experience working with international as well as US born students.

While I do have a car and am willing to travel, students with transportation or who live near Berwyn, Oak Park, Forrest Park or North Riverside may be interested in being tutored at my home which also functions as my art studio.

Although my education is in art, I do have extensive knowledge in music and have taught Bass Guitar in the past. I have used my music in video projects and recently had one of my songs used in a film.

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator

I have extensive using Illustrator as well as teaching it at the college level. I currently teach at the Illinois Institute of Art.
Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign

I have taught classes using In Design for more than 5 years at Westwood College, Columbia College and the Illinois Institute of Art. Classes I have taken using In Design include Intro to Typography, Publication Design, The Art Dir4ector/Copywriter Team and Advanced Typography. As a faculty member at Columbia College I am allowed free online training. Adobe In Design is the industry standard for page layout design and multiple page documents. You can create text and image frames, resize text and images as well as use various borders and design elements. Much like Photoshop and Illustrator, you can create and manage layers and use transparency. You can also create drop caps and create outlines for your text. In Design documents can be exported as a PDF for printing or an Adobe Flash document as well.
Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

I have taught classes using Adobe Photoshop for more than 10 years at Columbia College, Westwood College, and the Illinois Institute of Art. As a faculty member I am entitled to free online training. Classes I have taken that taught me about Photoshop include Intro to Computer Graphics, 2D Imaging and Time based Design. Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard for editing photos and creating pixel based art and graphics. While it originally began as a digital darkroom, it has expanded to do much more. You can composite many photographic elements as well as scanned objects by using the layers and blending modes. There are also painting, drawing, shape and airbrush tools. Artists can draw or paint with these tools as well as "airbrush" photos to clean up imperfections. Photoshop also has many options for color correction including hue/saturation, color balance and the channels. While channels can store color information, selections can be stored as a channel also. Photoshp has a library of filters which are a series of special effects. There are also "layer styles" which can be used for creating text effects or to create button style images for web pages. Photoshop has an animation pallet for creating animated GIF images or for working in Quicktime format. Newer versions of Photoshop have the option of creating 3D layers where the artists can import a model, re-size rotate and color that object. These can be rasterized to work like any other Photoshop layer.
Art History

Bright fun tutor to work with

David knew exactly what I wanted to learn, and understood how I wanted to present it so I could understand it. Very knowledgeable but more importantly knows how to teach

Paul , 1 lesson with David

Knows a-lot and how to explain in easy terms/makes it understandable.

Helped me learn more about InDesign from how to print docs as booklets, how to do cool type/text. He is very easy going and helps you really understand what your doing and how to do it.

Patient

David taught my son how to first draw bones, shapes, and outlines for a superhero. My son very much enjoyed his lesson. It was what he wanted to practice learning.

Sarah, 13 lessons with David

David tutoring Elvige

I go to UIC and he helped me with my painting class assignments. He taught me everything I needed. I'd like to have him back again. We did shading and he did above and beyond, by doing an extra circle. We were running over and he left me with a sketch instead of just leaving. There were things in my homework assignment that he caught and I didn't. We completed everything. It was a tone scale, a brush test sheet, a cylinder, an air plane and an extra circle. It was called Achromatic and Monochromatic painting. Next week is Color Mixing. I've never painted before in my life, David was very supportive. He taught me to brush not over the line. I really need him every week.

Elvige, 11 lessons with David

Gave us some very helpful hints and tools

We are hoping that we can get him back have him photoshop a photograph make it look good while we are watching and then observe us doing it and let us know what we are doing wrong or could improve on .
