I am qualified to tutor in several subject areas because my educational background and professional experience have prepared me to work with students at all K-12 and higher ed levels. I hold two master’s degrees, including one in 20th Century U.S. History, and I am currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership, having completed my coursework and now working on dissertation research. This academic background allows me to tutor in U.S. History, African American/Black Studies, business education, personal finance, academic writing, and research skills.

I have more than 20 years of teaching experience, primarily in secondary education, along with experience in higher education as an adjunct instructor. Over the course of my career, I have taught business, entrepreneurship, government, life skills, personal finance, history-related courses, and college-level Black Studies. My teaching approach is structured, supportive, and student-centered. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, use discussion and guided practice techniques, and connect ideas to real-world examples so students can build both understanding and confidence.

My experience includes teaching adolescents and young adults in diverse classroom settings--both face-to-face and online--as well as working with students in one-on-one and small-group support contexts. I have taught learners from a wide range of backgrounds, abilities, and readiness levels in both traditional and non-traditional educational settings. These experiences have strengthened my ability to differentiate instruction, build rapport, and meet students where they are. Whether I am helping a high school student with history, a college student with writing, or a learner needing support in business or personal finance, I bring patience, clarity, and a strong commitment to student success.

African American Studies

I am a professor of Black Studies at a local university with a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship and student understanding. My work centers on African American history, culture, and social thought, with a focus on helping students critically examine the Black experience in the United States and across the African diaspora. Through my teaching, I strive to create an engaging and thoughtful learning environment that connects historical understanding to contemporary issues.
